Ground Preparation

Ideally the site should be prepared before planting. Sub-soil or rip compacted sites to alleviate soil compaction. If grass or other weeds are a problem, a glyphosate type herbicide (e.g. Roundup) is best applied either as a spot treatment or overall in early autumn while the weeds are still growing. Otherwise this can be done after planting, providing that great care is taken not to let any of the spary drift onto the plant. This is much easier to achieve if tree shelters are used.
