About our products
Trees
Trees are grown from locally collected seed wherever possible to ensure production of hardy nursery stock. Plants range from 30-40cm seedlings and transplants to feathered trees of 5-8 feet and standard trees of 12-14feet. Conscientious nursery management throughout the seasons ensures that all plants are despatched in top quality condition.
A selection of species are available either as containerised trees or root-balled trees for out of season planting or more difficult planting sites. Trees are available for Forestry projects, woodland planting, field copses, shelter-belts, avenues and single specimens to enhance the landscape and increase the local diversity of habitats for birds and wildlife.
Woodland trees and hedge plants are suitable for planting under the English Woodland Grant Scheme, Environmental Stewardship Schemes and other Conservation Grant Schemes. Planting trees, hedge plants and woodland shrubs will support the targets listed on many Bio-diversity Action Plans.
Hedge plants
We offer a complete selection of traditional field and garden hedgerow species suitable for all sites and purposes. Thorpe Trees are major suppliers for The Countryside Stewardship Scheme, Entry Level and Higher Level Stewardship Schemes administered by Defra and national suppliers for conservation bodies such as BTCV, Wildlife Trusts and Ground Work Trust organisations.
Woodland Shrubs
An extensive range of traditional woodland shrubs are available for planting as cover across the woodland floor, field game cover, along the woodland edge or for other ground cover purposes. A diverse mix of woodland shrubs will support a host of small mammals and birds including dormouse, field mouse, voles, brown hare, grey partridge, lapwings, skylarks and song thrush.
Wild flowers and grasses
Traditional native wild flower species will provide colour and diversity for grassland and arable sites in hill, upland and lowland conditions and provide excellent feed and cover for feeding and nesting birds, bees and other insects. Thorpe Trees are pleased to give quotations for the supply of grass and wildflower seed for any site, purpose or area. Always be aware of any necessary ground preparation prior to sowing and the recommended sowing density to ensure succesful establishment.
Woodland bulbs
Woodland bulbs including daffodils, bluebells, aconites, celandines and fritillary are available during the autumn for colour in spring time. Available in any quanity and as single and mixed packs.
